PIG 455 is a paint inspection gauge, which is used at the situation that other common electromagnetic measurement technologies could not work.
Measurement Principle
The measurement of 455 bases on the standard process of Wedge-shape Cutting: cut into the coating till the material at a certain angle. Thickness of coating (s) is calculated by the triangle reflection of cutting surface. It is decided by a microscope and cutting angle (a). In accordance with the same principle, thickness of a single-layer in a multi-layer coating system can be calculated as well. For the adhesion test which conform to AS 1580 Meth 408.1, in a cutting, the width of where the coating rolls up is relative with the reflection (b).
Design and Function
PIG 455 is assembled by a black alumina part. The following functional elements is included:
·Replaceable carbide bit with a precise angle cutter.
·A 50x microscope and a scale(2mm is divided into 100 grids). Inspection is available.
·Two feet for supporting the microscope and guided carbide bit.
·Battery slot for 9V battery.
·LED is good for lightening samples.
·Switch（Lighten）
